The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) announced Feb. 2 that Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) has extended the grace period for pet food manufacturers to comply with new import health requirements (IHRs).
Under the original IHRs, pet food products exported to Korea within the last year could continue to use their existing health certificates with no facility approval until Dec. 31, 2025. Now the country has extended this period to Dec. 31, 2027. During this two-year period, pet food that meets certification statements on an existing health certificate can continue to be exported into Korea. Additionally, pet food manufacturing facilities registered can continue to export product to Korea without facility approval.
